The television industry is one of the most segregated industries in America today. There is not a major industry of its size that exists in the world that is as segregated. You can see Black executives at Daimler-Chrysler or American Express, but you would be hard pressed to find more than one or two people in the entertainment world. What frustrates me is that as astute as we claim to be with all of our modern technology moving around, we have forgotten one of the oldest rules articulated by Frederick Douglass: ‘Power gives up nothing without demand.’ Some of the highest paid performers are Black. [White executives] will give you all the money you can hold, but when you ask for power, you get a blank look. Think about that, ‘The thing of value is not the money but the power.’ I’ll tell you what, ‘You give me the power, I’ll make my own money.’ - Tim Reid
